Is the US in a war or not?

In a fun cast in Skypeland, two antiAmericans both showed up..and both of them claimed that the US is evil. One claimed that there is no war, and the other claimed that there was a war. I immediately jumped on these two characters. One wanted to argue there is a war and the other didn't, depending on whether they perceived an advantage to claiming a war exists or not. It was hilarious to hear these characters arguing on opposite sides of the same issue at the same time. Well if you want to nitpick, one might argue this:

The U.S. Congress yesterday passed a resolution authorizing President Bush to use the Armed Forces of the United States against Iraq.
The House of Representatives on Oct. 10 passed the resolution (H.J. Res. 114) by a vote of 296-133. Senate approval came in a late-night vote of 77-23.
He also claimed that the US is not fighting against Al Qaeda in Iraq. The Iraqi in the room tried to present evidence that contradicted this, but he did not want to hear it.

He also said that the US intelligence organizations have no information. He contradicted himself over and over, or relied on very slender arguments based on hair-splitting. Ah ...such rationality and reasonableness.
