Bush is to blame

Skypeland is a interesting place to explore cultural conflicts and disagreements. A pair of visitors to Skypeland with thick Jamaican accents came to a room in Skypeland and an interesting episode commenced. First, one of the Jamaicans started by attacking one of the room residents for being Jewish (see the blog post "You sound Jewish"). Then they revealed a huge anti-American and antisemitic and anti-Israeli agenda and set of attitudes.

Neither of these two with Jamaican accents would admit where they were from, but wanted to talk and talk and talk about how evil and racist the US is. When asked why it is permissable for blacks to use the word "nigger" in almost every single sentence, but whites are not allowed to use the word, the silence was deafening. They did not seem to have an answer for that.

One was angry that another in the room was using the word "fuck" fairly often, and said that the use of the word "fuck" meant that the person was intellectually inferior. It was pointed out that Black Studies scholars in the US have asserted that ebonics is a vastly superior and more intellectually sophisticated form of speech since it uses uses the word "fuck" as every second word, and in ebonics, the word "fuck" can take on many different meanings. Therefore, it was alleged that the person objecting to the word "fuck" must be a racist. There was no response to this, of course. I guess they did not know much about modern Black Studies scholarship.

They were shocked to hear that there is a much higher rate of black-on-black crime in the US than anything else. They objected to suggestions that blacks in the US should be better educated and that black family structures should be strengthened. They said this was racist, and were extremely angry about it.

I pointed out that in areas of the US which have a large Jamaican immigrant population, the Jamaicans do much better than the African Americans in school. They are better educated and more successful, and have more stable family structures, all because of attitudes. I pointed out that there is tension between Jamaican immigrants in the US and African Americans. They did not know how to respond to this. I guess it does not fit with their politically-correct worldview.

They started talking about how the world is an awful place and that it is all due to George Bush and the white people. All the problems in the world, in places like Cuba, Venezuela, the UK, the Congo, Somalia, Darfur, South Africa, Burkina-Fasso, Bosnia, Brazil, Serbia, Haiti, Iraq, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, etc are supposedly because of Bush. They felt that the reason Zimbabwe is a big mess and that Mugabe is a poor leader is because of the trade embargo the white people placed against the country. These Jamaican-accented visitors felt that even if Barack Obama kills more people than Bush, and is engaged in more wars, he will be judged as superior and a success because he has brown skin and it is about symbolism. They wanted a brown-skinned president, even if he caused much more death and misery than a white president.

My gosh. This really tells something abou their attitudes. It is quite sad, really. And racist.
